Monitoring(OMD) QuickStart on Amazon Linux

Need to get monitoring up now? We can do it under 5 minutes with AWS and OMD with these simple steps.

  1. Create an AWS EC2 instance
  2. SSH into AWS EC2 instance
  3. su to root
  4. Install dependencies
    1. yum install boost-program-options dialog fping graphviz graphviz-gd httpd libmcrypt libtool-ltdl mod_fcgid mysql-server net-snmp net-snmp-utils pango perl-Net-SNMP php php-mbstring php-pdo php-gd uuid xinetd xorg-x11-server-Xvfb python-ldap radiusclient-ng -y
  5. Download RPM
    1. wget http://files.omdistro.org/releases/centos_rhel/omd-1.20.rhel6.x86_64.rpm
      --2015-12-18 16:56:01-- http://files.omdistro.org/releases/centos_rhel/omd-1.20.rhel6.x86_64.rpm

  6. Install RPM
    1. rpm -ivh omd-1.20.rhel6.x86_64.rpm
      Preparing... ################################# [100%]

         1:omd-1.20-rh61-33 ################################# [100%]
  7. Start Apache
    1. /etc/init.d/httpd start
      Starting httpd:
  8. Create a site
    1. omd create <site_name>
      Adding /omd/sites/<site_name>/tmp to /etc/fstab.
      Restarting Apache...httpd: apr_sockaddr_info_get() failed for ip-1.2.3.4
httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName
      OK
      Creating temporary filesystem /omd/sites/<site_name>/tmp...OK
Created new site <site_name> with version 1.20.

The site can be started with omd start <site_name>.
The default web UI is available at http://ip-1.2.3.4/<site_name>/
The admin user for the web applications is omdadmin with password omd.
Please do a su - <site_name> for administration of this site.
  9. Start OMD
    1. omd start
      Doing 'start' on site core:
      Starting rrdcached...OK
      Starting npcd...OK
      Starting nagios...OK
Starting dedicated Apache for site core...OK
      Initializing Crontab...OK
